We are delighted to announce that the event discussing the exciting topic of “AI-powered Futures: Unlocking Entrepreneurship and Career Paths” was successfully held on 10 November 2023!

 

Ms Rebecca Lim, Founder of AutoML Capital Limited, shared her fascinating journey with us. With her background in studying physics, she made a bold decision to transit from a job in the banking industry to start her own FinTech company.

 

Rebecca inspired us by highlighting the importance of embracing new opportunities and taking risks in the ever-evolving world of technology-driven entrepreneurship. She also provided valuable tips to students, shedding light on the essential characteristics sought after in talented individuals today.

 

Next, we had the honor of having Mr Timothy Leung, Executive Director of HKAI Lab, as our second guest speaker. He delved into the practical applications of AI and discussed the current trends shaping the field. It was an eye-opening session that gave us a glimpse into the immense potential of AI across various industries.

 

The highlight of the event was the engaging Q&A session, where students actively participated and exchanged ideas. We witnessed lively discussions on the daily usage of AI, with popular examples like ChatGPT and generative AI being explored. It was inspiring to see the enthusiasm and curiosity of the attendees as they explored the possibilities that AI brings to our lives.

Bio of Timothy Leung (Executive Director, HKAI Lab):

In the years as the Executive Director of the HKAI Lab, Timothy has supported and coached many startups in the journey to become a successful business, including areas in fundraising, product and business development, and team management. He leveraged his own experience as a startup co-founder and network in the startup ecosystem.

Timothy has accumulated over 20 years of experience in the Information and Internet field. He worked in esteemed companies such as Alibaba, Apple, and PCCW. He is now the Executive Director of the HKAI LAB, which is a not-for-profit initiative fully funded by the Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund and SenseTime focused on advancing the frontiers of AI with cutting-edge technologies and expertise, and empowering startups to commercialize their new inventions.

Timothy is strong at business strategic planning and implementation. He had managed direct sales teams and channel partners for technology products and internet services, such a background equipped him with comprehensive experience in sales, marketing, product development and senior management. He had many successes in government and private sector partnership development and management.

Timothy’s 20+ years’ experience in the technology field covering Asia, Europe, and Americas. He directly managed staff and partners in Japan, Korea, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Turkey, USA, UK, Italy, Brazil and Peru.

 

Bio of Rebecca Lim (Founder, AutoML Capital Limited):

Rebecca Lim is the founder of AutoML Capital and Automated Machine Learning Limited. She is a physicist by training and obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Physics from the University of Oxford, specializing in Atmospheric and Particle Physics. She then pursued a career in Banking and Finance across Sales and Trading and Private Banking in Hong Kong and London across the areas of market risks, derivative pricing, portfolio constructions etc. Her passion in Science and R&D motivated her to start the research company Automated Machine Learning Limited in 2017 in order to simplify the processes of building machine learning modules. The company later became the building block of AutoML Capital Limited, an SFC Licensed company that made use of the automated machine learning pipelines, focusing on the use case in WealthTech.

Rebecca is a mother of three young kids as well as a sub 4-hour marathon runner. She puts her passion in Science and Technology in good use by encouraging young women to take on bigger technology roles in the industries.
